It's hard to believe my first year at Reede Gray has come to an end. It went by so fast, but it was a wonderful year of meeting many new people in our communities and watching our talented young people at Reede Gray grow and learn so much in one year's time. The building has been pretty quiet since the students left for summer but the energy of the building will regenerate when school resumes on August 21, 2017.
Even though school is out for summer break, doesn't mean the learning should be put on hold. Any experience with your child is an opportunity to learn new vocabulary and new information. There are so many opportunities to learn right here in our own backyard. The Redwood County Museum, Renville County Museum in Morton or the Lower Sioux Interpretive Center offer many great history and cultural lessons about this area. Don't forget to visit the library. They have a great summer reading program for all ages. Remember to check out some books for those rainy summer days. I love reading during a summer thunderstorm!
Just a reminder that our FREE breakfast/lunch program is up and running. Students can enjoy a free breakfast from 8:15-8:45 or a free lunch served from 11:30-12:30 each weekday at Reede Gray Elementary. The lunch program will run through August 4, 2017. The lunch program will not be serving on July 3rd or 4th. All children 18 years and younger are welcome to attend. Enter the building using the NW doors and proceed to the cafeteria.
Something new for the upcoming school year. Our school day will begin at 8:15 a.m. each day. This will give those students not wanting to eat breakfast a chance to put their things away, do a little reading or get organized for the day. Breakfast will still be served in every classroom at 8:10 a.m. There is no cost to families so be sure your child arrives early enough to enjoy this time with their teachers and classmates. It is a great way to get your child's day started and will help them perform in the classroom.
I hope you get a chance to spend time in the great outdoors this summer!!
