School Resource Officer
My name is Mike Monson and I am the School Resource Officer for the Redwood Valley School District. I have been a Redwood Falls Police Officer since 2009. Aside from being a patrol officer I also serve on our regional Emergency Response Unit and I have been an Emergency Medical Technician since 2005.
I originally graduated from Minnesota State University, Mankato with a degree in Recreation, Parks and Leisure Services before working for the YMCA of Greater Minneapolis and the Three Rivers Park District. After switching careers, I earned an Associate’s Degree in Law Enforcement from Minneapolis Community and Technical College.
My duties in the district include being a mentor, a teacher and a law enforcement officer. I enjoy interacting with the students and feel that my previous career has certainly helped prepare me for this role. I also enforce criminal violations that may occur during the school year and spend time with students in a proactive manner to try and resolve the issues before they become criminal. I have an open door policy and urge students, staff and parents to stop by with any issues they may have or just to say hello.
